Through the years, Johnny Depp has portrayed different roles in his long acting career, both in television and cinema. From Edward Scissorhands to Captain Jack Sparrow, he has showcased versatile acting skills that made him one of the A-list actors in Hollywood.

Born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Depp began his career in music, dropping out of school to pursue a career as a rock musician, which led him to go to Los Angeles after the breakup of his band, The Kids.

Following his appearance in the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street, he landed his first major role in the Fox TV series 21 Jump Street, for which he reportedly earned $45,000 per episode, according to a story published by Marca.

In 1990, Tim Burton cast him in the cult film Edward Scissorhands, marking the start of a long and fruitful collaboration with the renowned filmmaker.

Depp starred in several classic films thanks to his collaboration with Burton. The list includes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the animated film Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows.

Aside from acting, Depp is also involved with his production firm Infinitum Nihil, which he founded in 2004, and his sister Christi Dembrowski, who serves as president.

Depp is a talented musician as well. In 2015, he founded the band Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

Hundreds Of Millions Lost

Depp's fortunes, on the other hand, suffered when he discovered that he had lost $650 million in movie profits due to suspected financial mismanagement. Depp realized that he owed the IRS $100 million in overdue taxes since taxes had not been paid on his account for 17 years.

According to Variety, Depp's finances were managed by a corporation called The Management Group for most of his career. In 2017, Depp filed a lawsuit accusing them of "gross mismanagement and, at times, outright fraud," alleging that they caused him to lose tens of millions of dollars, racked up more than $40 million in debt without his awareness, failed to file his property taxes properly, made unpermitted loans, and overpaid for security and other services, among other accusation.

The Management Group countersued, saying that, despite receiving $650 million over the preceding 13 years, Depp's extravagant spending practices had left him with insufficient liquid cash to fulfill his basic monthly costs, which exceeded $2 million per month. They argued Depp placed himself in these circumstances through excessive spending.

Lavish Lifestyle

Depp is said to spend $3.6 million a year on a 40-person full-time staff, $30,000 on wine monthly, $150,000 on bodyguards, and $200,000 on private jet flights. He is also said to have spent $75 million on more than 14 properties throughout the world, including a 45-acre castle in France, a horse farm in Kentucky, and various Bahamas islands. He could sell his entire real estate portfolio for $100 million if he wanted to.

He possesses multiple yachts, more than 45 automobiles, memorabilia worth $12 million in 12 storage facilities, and an art collection that includes artworks by Andy Warhol.

Depp is also said to have paid $5 million to get the ashes of Hunter S. Thompson shot from a cannon off a 153-foot tower.

Despite the massive losses in his wealth, Depp is still among the highest-paid performers in Hollywood. He gets $20 million upfront and 20% of the backend for each film.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise alone has earned more than $300 million as a result of this contract, while backend profits from "Alice in Wonderland" totaled $55 million.

Johnny Depp has a net worth of $100 million, according to Celebs Net Worth. Johnny Depp's several successful films have made over $3.4 billion in the United States and $8.7 billion globally.

With his reported annual income of more than $100 million in some years, Depp ranks among the highest-paid celebrities in the world.
