Colorado Woman Posts Photo Of Her Breastfeeding A Puppy, Sparks Criticism (PHOTOS)

An unidentified woman's picture of breastfeeding her puppy has gone viral and gained a lot of attention, KRDO News Channel 13 reported.

According to Yahoo News, the woman from Colorado, who asked her name to be kept anonymous, posted the picture on Facebook. Why exactly did she do it, you ask?

It was to save the life of the lab-mix pup, the runt of his orphaned litter, she said.

She told KRDO, that the little fella, named Tubbs, wouldn't eat from a bottle or take K-9 formula, "He just wasn't taking it. I didn't know what else to do, I was desperate and I just couldn't bear sitting there watching it die. Literally what clicked in my head was like, put him on you, just pray to God he will take something and not die."

Before deciding to do it, she admitted feeling a bit of comprehension and considering the action to be a taboo. She wouldn't divulge as to why she felt the need to share her actions on Facebook, Yahoo News reported.

Though she has received mostly negative criticism, she said she doesn't regret her actions. "I can't let their criticism bring me down when I did something right and I've seen the results. That dog is alive because I took that initiative."

Rather than taboo, there are major health risks to be concerned about, Dr. Amber Williams told the Colorado Springs, according to Yahoo News.

She said there are zoonotic diseases that can be passed from puppies to babies, and that human milk is not ideal for other animals.

Fortunately, the woman who breastfed Tubbs said that she no longer nurses her 15-month-old child, so nothing should be passed. As for Tubbs, he's no longer nursing either, Yahoo News reported.

KRDO said the little guy is now on formula.
