Los Angeles fire authorities were putting out a blaze in a detached garage early Monday morning when they found the charred remains of a 61-year-old man.
The man's body was discovered at around 4 a.m., when fire fighters were called to the Winnetka residence in the San Fernando Valley, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Authorities battled the blaze at the detached garage, which had been converted into a home, for no more than 20 minutes. They found the 61-year-old unidentified remains after putting out the flames and letting the smoke clear.
The victim was reportedly hoarding his belongings in the home, with visible piles of possessions throughout, Fire Battalion Chief Steve Ruda told City News Service.
The man's cause of death has still not been publicized, according to the Los Angeles Times. Firefighters reported no other injuries, and assigned an arson unit on the case.
Ruda also stated that the deceased man was good friends with the owners of the single-story home located on Sunnybrae Ave., AP reported.
