Marc Jacobs was forced to settle for another photographer for their latest campaign involving Miley Cyrus because their usual point man Photographer Juergen Teller refused to shoot the singer.
Miley Cyrus has maintained a very close friendship with fashion designer Marc Jacobs and this bond has strengthened after she pictured nude for his "Protect the Skin You're In" T-shirt campaign. Therefore, it came as no surprise when Jacobs pulled in Cyrus for his new Marc by Marc Jacobs' spring 2014 ad campaign.
"We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything," Jacobs told WWD Magazine. "There's nothing I don't like about her. She is just genuine and very natural."
However, it seems like not everyone in the Jacobs camp shares the same opinion. The brand's usual photographer, Juergen Teller, refused to shoot the star and hence, Jacobs was forced to settle for another photographer since he was adamant on having Cyrus in the photo shoot. Photographer David Sims was roped in for the project and the end results of the shoot clearly show that the fashion house has decided on taking a different path than its usual ad campaigns.
The shoot took place on a beach. Jacobs said that he wanted the girls in the picture to be sulky and broody and Cyrus fit the bill perfectly. The picture shows a zombie-ish blonde model staring vacantly into space, while a seemingly lifeless redhead plays dead on the ground to her left. Cyrus sports an embroidered jacket and custom black sneakers while she sits sulking and brooding on the beach.
Reasons for why teller refused to shoot Cyrus remains a mystery and the fashion house hasn't revealed and further details. All they've said is that "he just didn't want to shoot her." There seem to be no hard feelings between Jacobs and Teller. The two have worked together on several projects previously and Jacobs said, "I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist. He just didn't want to shoot her," to WWD. Teller, on the other hand, did contribute to the latest campaign and has shot many other models, according to Us Weekly.
