A California family of four was found dead in their home on Monday of an alleged murder-suicide.
According to The Associated Press, the bodies of Ramon Miranda, 38, and Silvia Miranda, 34, and the couple's children, 12-year-old Ramon Jr. and 10-year-old Rayna were found at about 8:30 p.m. Monday at their Fontana, Calif. home. The bodies were reportedly "spread out" across the family's home.
The 16-year-old son of Silvia Miranda found the bodies on Monday. He reportedly was trying to get in contact with his mother throughout the day, but was unsuccessful. When he arrived to the scene and saw what happened, he alerted the authorities.
Police spokeswoman Martha Guzman-Hurtado told AP the mother and children has "several" gunshot wounds while the father was shot once in the head. Investigators did retrieve a handgun at the scene believed to be the alleged murder weapon.
"Everything that has been confirmed so far indicates it could be a murder-suicide, but that has not been confirmed," Guzman-Hurtado said. "They are questioning other people before making that conclusion."
"It's a sad day in Fontana," Guzman-Hurtado added. "This is one of those days where we're all supposed to be celebrating with family, making new memories with family as we say goodbye to 2013 and welcome the New Year. It's not a day to be mourning lives lost."
Jonathan Garcia, a witness at the scene, described to AP hearing the police arriving at the scene.
"I hear, 'Get down, get down!' I recognize that as a cop's voice," he told AP.
"They're all rushing at the house. There's a younger kid, probably 16 years old. He's screaming and yelling ... he's saying, 'That's my mom! That's my mom!" Garcia said.
AP reports authorities are not looking for any other suspects at this point in their investigation.
