"Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts has come out publicly about as a gay woman in a touching tribute to all who have helped her during her health battles.

Roberts took to her official Facebook page to post a message about her bone marrow transplant in 2012. According to The Associated Press, Roberts underwent the procedure to treat a rare blood and bone marrow disease called myelodysplastic syndrome.

"Hard to believe this was 1 year ago today when I reached a critical milestone of 100 days post transplant and KJ was finally allowed to come back home," Roberts wrote.

"At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude," Roberts added.  "I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health.  I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life."

In the Facebook post, Roberts acknowledged her relationship with Amber Laign, a massage therapist who was introduced to the anchor through mutual friends.  According to AP, the couple has been together for 10 years.

"I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.  I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold.  On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too," she wrote.

Laign was also an important part of Robert's recovery from her breast cancer battle in 2007.

"As for why Robin came out yesterday, we're told she never felt the need to tell the world, but at the end of such a difficult year she wanted to acknowledge what Amber did for her," TMZ reports.  "We're told the illnesses strengthened an already strong bond."
