Five people were shot and injured at a house party in Brownsville, Brooklyn on Monday night, 7Online reported.
The shooter opened fire at a public housing complex just before midnight.
Tenants on the sixth floor reportedly organized a party that evening and posted about the gathering on Facebook. However, some people who had previous issues with those attending the party showed up outside of the building, quickly following by a wave of bullets in the lobby.
Mostly young men were wounded from shots in the leg and a woman was allegedly pistol-whipped. All victims were transported to Brookdale University Hospital and other nearby ones.
Police do not have any suspects and also say the unidentified victims are not cooperating with the investigation.
Tony Herbert, a community activist, said he wanted to gather with other local activists to deal with the issue in the neighborhood.
"Our concern is that the attitude, with these young people, is that this may now be an occasion for retaliation," he said. "We're going to try to keep the peace."
According to the New Jersey Herald, Brownsville has one of the most populated public housing developments in the city. Herbert added that sometimes residents in one building with have ongoing feuds with residents in another one.
The area in Brooklyn has seen a reduced crime rate like the rest of New York City but still had a string of violent incidents this year. In September, a baby was fatally shot after being struck by a bullet in his stroller, and in November, a man was killed in a driveby shooting near a public school.
