Minnesota (8-4) was unable to walk away with a win at last year's Texas Bowl, where Texas Tech handed them a 34-31 loss. Minnesota coach Jerry Kill, of course, is excited for another chance at the Texas Bowl trophy.

"We enjoyed our experience last year and wish we could have come away with a victory," Kill said, via ESPN. "I know our players, especially the 12 from Texas, welcome the opportunity to represent the University of Minnesota in a state that has a great football tradition."

Minnesota blew a seven-point lead in the final 1:10 of the fourth quarter of last year's bowl, according to ESPN. Despite the loss, at least one of the players from last year's Golden Gophers team believes the experience gives them an upper hand over Syracuse.

"I think it's definitely an advantage that Syracuse won't have," Minnesota defensive back Brock Vereen said. "We've been in that city, we've practiced at that high school field, we've played in that stadium so it's definitely something to be excited about."

On top of a bowl trophy, Minnesota can make history: a win on Friday will give the school their second nine-win season in 108 years.

"We have a great opportunity to compete and continue to make history as a team," said Kill. "Nine games, winning nine games is important to us, winning a bowl game is important to us."

Syracuse (6-6), meanwhile, is looking for its second win ever against Minnesota. Syracuse running back Jerome Smith led the offense with 840 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping the Orange finish fourth in the ACC with 193.8 rushing yards per game.
