A teenage driver was shot and killed by a Florida Panhandle officer, after the 17-year-old steered his car over the foot of another law enforcement official.
William Goodman was locked in a high-speed chase with police on Tuesday when he ran over an officer's leg, the Associated Press reported. The Penascola Police Department then reported that an officer opened fire into his 2009 Chevrolet Corvette. He died shortly thereafter.
The wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where he received medical treatment and was subsequently released.
The officer who shot Goodman, whose identity has not yet been publicized, is currently on paid leave while state authorities conduct a probe into the incident.
According to the Associated Press, officers tried to pull Goodman over after receiving a handful of calls about a reckless driver speeding through the streets of Penascola. Goodman reportedly drove at almost 100 miles per hour during the chase with police.
Goodman had a court appearance scheduled for next month on unrelated charges.
The teen was charged with vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving last year, after he allegedly sped through a residential area and hit 66-year-old Michael M. Labelle and his wife.
