Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Trailer Debuts Showing First Glimpse Of Apes Since 2011 (WATCH)

The first trailer for the follow-up to 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" has been released showing fans a bit of what Cloverfield director Matt Reeves' vision for the next installment of the story will look like.

The film is set for a release on May 23, 2014 and stars Andy Serkis as Caesar, the leader of the apes that he played in the previous film. According to the Telegraph he did not receive an Oscar nomination for the role in a notorious Academy snub.

Serkis will appear with Judy Greer, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval as Apes and Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke will appear as humans in the film.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will pick up where Rise of the Planet of the Apes left off with the human population succumbing to a lethal virus race of genetically-enhanced apes who take over San Francisco by force.

"A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier," the films official synopsis reads. "They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species."

The trailer doesn't feature much in terms of plot other than what one can infer from the powerful speech by Gary Oldeman's character who seems to be trying to unite humanity and come to some kind of peace with the apes.

Take a look at the trailer below and tell us what you think of the next installment in the Apes franchise. Does it hit all the notes you want to see it hit from the previous films? Would you prefer the story take a different direction? Comment and share your thoughts with us below.
