Davion Only, 15, Florida pleaded for an adoptive family to spend Christmas with had finally got one.
Two month ago, the teen begged at his church for someone to adopt him so he could experience what it’s like to have a family. He has lived his life transferring to different foster care homes after his biological mother, La Dwina ‘Big Dusty’ Mcloud, left him. He never longed for a family before as he was hoping that her mother will return to get him one day. However, he realized that is never going to happen after finding out that she is already dead.
Davion shared to the Daily Mail how he looked for his mother using his birth certificate in a local library back in June. Unfortunately, the only thing he found was that she was dead a few weeks before he found her. La Dwina died at 55, blinded and left with one leg due to diabetes complications. She was also known to be a crack addict which explains why she decided to leave her son while he was only a few months old. She was also in and out of the prison on several offenses.
After finding out that no one is coming back for him, Davion got his act together, studied hard, shed off his excess weight, and worked on having a positive outlook in life. He used to have short temper and poor behavior.
In October, Davion stood up at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. and begged for an adoptive family. His mother’s biological family wanted to adopt him beforehand but they were not qualified because most of them have criminal records.
He told the congregation: 'I'll take anyone. Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple. I don't care. And I would be really appreciative. The best I could be… I know God hasn't given up on me. So I'm not giving up either.'
After his touching plea, the Eckerd's Carlton Manor where he stays with 12 other boys received inquiries about Davion and expressed their plans of adopting him. The inquiries came from not only in the U.S but from other countries as well.
To date, Davion has found an adoptive family and he is living with them to get to know them before they finalize the adoption papers.
His biological aunt Doris Barnes could only wish him well. : “I just want him to be happy and loved and to be with someone who is going to do the best for his future.”
