The Houston Texans have re-signed Brandon Weeden to a two-year $4 million deal. This is an unexpected move for the Texans, who are expected to utilize Brock Osweiler as their franchise quarterback.

Brian Hoyer was the starting quarterback for the Texans at the beginning of the 2015 season, but he proved to be turnover prone and cost the Texans a chance at a deep playoff run. It can now be safely assumed that Hoyer will be traded, as re-signing Weeden is a sign that they will want to keep a veteran that they have had success with on the roster.

Weeden spent most of the past few seasons with the Cowboys and finally got the opportunity to start when Tony Romo went down with an injury during the 2015 NFL season. Weeden came in and had a less than stellar showing, throwing more picks than touchdowns and bringing no offensive spark to the Dallas passing game whatsoever.

This all changed for Weeden after he was released and picked up by the Houston Texans. They believed Weeden that could fit their system and start considering he had earlier in the season. Weeden came in and helped the Texans secure a playoff spot while Brian Hoyer was out with an injury.

The thought of trading Hoyer should seemingly be the strongest it has all offseason. The New York Jets have been the main team interested in Hoyer's services, but you can easily assume that the Broncos will be in the discussion as well.

With several quarterback hungry teams in the first round of the NFL draft, it is likely that not every franchise will be able to draft a top rated signal caller. For a team like the Broncos, who will pick last in the first round, it could make perfect sense to sign a player who may be average but can certainly perform at or near a level that Peyton Manning played at during the 2015 season.

The Jets are in the same predicament, as they will have the 20th selection in the draft and may need to find a solid option at quarterback prior to that. A draft day trade for Hoyer may make sense for both franchises considering they are selecting so close to one another. Re-signing Weeden seemingly secures his roster spot at least for the 2016 NFL season.
