The Montana woman who allegedly killed her husband of eight days by pushing him off of a cliff at Glacier National Park continued court proceedings on Wednesday during the third day of her trial.
22-year-old Jordan Graham, who has been charged with first and second-degree murder in the case of deceased husband Cody Johnson, reportedly told the FBI in a recorded statement, "I pushed him and I took off."
Officials played the tape for the jury at the Missoula, Mont. Federal Courthouse, the Associated Press reported. In the recording, Graham described to FBI agent Stacey Smiedala that she'd been fighting with her newlywed husband and they decided to drive to Glacier to have a conversation about their relationship. As the conversation escalated, Johnson reportedly grabbed Grahams arm, and Johnson brushed Johnson's hand away, then pushed him off the cliff.
"it was a quick thing, I just wanted to get him off me," she said in the recording. "I don't feel like I killed him; I mean, I pushed him, but it was an accident."
Johnson and Graham's friends took the stand on Wednesday to testify that the newlywed wife was in a state of "despair" eight days after their wedding.
Acquaintance of Johnson Jennifer Toren said that the 25-year-old was wildly in love with Graham.
"He was willing to do anything for her," she said.
Kimberly Martinez, a friend of Graham's, told the jury that the 22-year-old woman was bursting with joy before her wedding, but her tone changed in the following days.
"Something was wrong," Martinez stated. "I couldn't tell if she was unhappy or something had happened."
The prosecution maintained that Graham convinced her husband to come to the cliff, then shoved him off to end his life, adding that her inconsistent accounts following the incident proved that she was lying.
But Graham's attorney asserted that the young woman was "naïve, immature and shy," according to Business Insider, and claimed she didn't alert authorities of the death because she was scared.
