Foreign Diplomatic missions stationed in North Korea may be in danger, after Pyongyang said Friday that it cannot ensure the safety of embassies and international organizations if a war breaks out, according to CNN.
New reports are saying that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has loaded missiles in preparation for launch. As tensions grow South Korea has moved naval destroyers to protect its coasts.
According to the British Foreign Office, the DPRK informed British officials that the safety of officials and diplomats was not guaranteed if a military conflict ensues. Officials were asked by North Korea if they needed help evacuating any of their diplomats.
"We are consulting international partners about these developments," the British Foreign Office said in a written statement. "No decisions have been taken, and we have no immediate plans to withdraw our embassy."
According to a Sweden ministry of foreign affairs spokesman, the North Koreans only offered help in evacuation, they never asked the foreigners to leave or threatened them to leave. The Swedish Embassy is currently continuing its operations.
According to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the United States would not be shocked by a North Korean missile launch.
"We have seen them launch missiles in the past and the United Nations Security Council has repeatedly condemned them as violations of the North's obligations under numerous Security Council resolutions," he said Friday.
Tensions have continued to rise over the past few weeks, as North Korea has been going back and forth with the United States in a bunch of chess moves and rhetoric.
Moves from the United States have included fly-over of South Korea using B-2 stealth bombers, publicizing the creation of a plan to deal with North Korean provocations and sending F-22 Raptor fighter jets to participate in South Korean training exercises.
North Korea has fired back issuing threats to fire rocket on the U.S. mainland and keeping South Korean workers from a joint-Korean industrial complex.
