Despite recent unfriendly headwinds that have ground its growth to a stop and battered the company's stock prices, microblogging giant Twitter has expressly refused to throw in the towel. In an announcement on Wednesday, Twitter has stated that it is rolling out a new timeline feature, which presents key tweets at the top of other people's feeds. With the new feature, users would be able to get a brief rundown of tweets from people that they interact with the most, according to Market Watch.

Mike Jahr, senior engineering manager at Twitter, stated that the update is all about making the service user-friendly. After all, a good number of Twitter users are following massive numbers of people. With the new timeline, following key accounts would be much more convenient.

"You follow hundreds of people on Twitter, maybe thousands, and when you open Twitter, you may feel like you've missed their most important tweets. Today, we're excited to share a new timeline feature that helps you catch up on the best tweets from people you follow," he said in a blog post, according to CNet News.

Indeed, the new update to the company's iconic timeline is extremely algorithm-based. Of course, with a change this significant, a number of users have reacted negatively to the timeline's update.

In order to curb user's worries about the new feature, Twitter stated that the new timeline feature is strictly opt-in for now. This means that it would not be activated unless a user actually agrees to activate it, reports Mashable.

Nevertheless, Twitter is hoping that the new timeline feature would be embraced by its multitudes of users and, in the end, prove to be a valuable step in gaining back momentum.
