Half of Instragam’s Users Come From Android Smartphones

Instagram revealed in an official statement that half of its active users are android smartphone users.

It's been little over a year since Instagram launched its service for Android smartphones. In that short span of time, android smartphone users have become majority of the people that use Instagram. According to an official statement that the photo sharing service released Wednesday, 50 percent of its active users come from Android.

A news report by PC Magazine revealed the day Instagram launched its android app on April 2, 2012; more than one million users immediately downloaded the application to their phones. By that time, Instagram on iPhones was an old thing. Instagram launched its iPhone app in October 2010.

Just days after Instagram developed its Android application; Facebook acquired the photo sharing service for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock April 12, 2012.

A cold war broke out between iPhone Instagram users and the new Android Instagram users. Many Instagram users even took to their twitter accounts to declare what was known as a silent war.

"Don't follow me on Instagram if you got an Android," user @iFollowBlindPpl wrote. "Only iPhone users following this way. Im blocking Android users. This is war."

However, over the years, the Android community has been a driving force globally. "We've also seen Android Instagrammers contribute to the community in innovative and powerful ways," Instagram Android Team member Philip McAllistersaid, "like @daveedgamboa's jumpstagram project, @adamgrayson's photos of England's Lancashire county, and a glimpse into the life of Kenya's nomads from @grantsmind."

He then thanked all Android users and said the company is "working hard to make the [Android] app fast and easy to use" and is "dedicated to always bringing you the best Instagram experience possible".
