Both the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are reportedly interested in signing Lamar Odom, provided the beleaguered free agent continues to get his life back in order. The two teams are keeping tabs on Odom and could vie for his services should he choose to return to the NBA this season, according to ESPN.
Both Los Angeles teams explored signing Odom in the summer until the 33-year-old's private life began unraveling. With allegations of drug use and marital infidelity seemingly behind him, Odom appears to be getting his life back together.
"Odom recently began training again with an eye toward making a return to the floor during the second half of the season, sources have said," ESPN wrote on Thursday.
Although neither team has officially contacted Odom, they both have "renewed" interest in signing Odom if he can prove his troubles are behind him.
The Lakers are carrying 15 players and would have to make room for Odom, which is possible with four non-guaranteed contracts - Xavier Henry, Shawne Williams, Ryan Kelly and Elias Harris - on the books this year.
If Odom does choose to make a comeback this year, ESPN's sources said both teams would "carefully" evaluate whether to sign the former Sixth Man.
Odom spent seven seasons with the Lakers, winning two NBA championships and netting the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011. He last played in the NBA during the 2012-13 season with the Clippers, where he spent his first four professional seasons.
