Just a few days before the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony has come out to give a few details about the way its voice command functionality will work at launch and just how much of its features will have to wait until later weeks.
According to the people in charge of the PlayStation 4 over at Sony, the new next-generation console will launch with limited voice command functionality, however more will be added over time.
Sony reps confirmed this news to Engadget saying that anyone trying to use the PlayStation 4's Camera features won't be able to turn on the console with voice commands alone. In addition, they won't be able to control any of the third-party apps that have been announced.
It's not all bad news for those excited about the PlayStation 4's voice command, the console can be turned of with voice commands and games can be opened. Unfortunately, facial recognition is also limited at this stage of the console's development. It will only be used for logging in and there are zero gesture integrations present. The company was quick to say that more functions would be added in the future but, it was careful not to put any kind of real timeline on just when these features would be made available.
The PlayStatoin 4's camera is the only means by which the device can directly compete on every level with its holiday sales rival from Microsoft, the Xbox One. The next-gen console from Microsoft comes with the Kinect motion sensor, a major feature with voice and motion commands and functions that augment the Xbox One in various ways. With the PlayStation 4 handicapped at launch by having a lot of its features trimmed down only to be established at some undetermined later date, it suddenly puts the PlayStation 4 behind the Xbox One just days before the two consoles launch.
The PlayStatoin 4 will be available in North America on November 15 and will hit store shelves in Europe on November 29.
