Samsung Analyst Day: Samsung Shifting to Bended Screens for 2015 and Foldable Screens for 2017

Samsung announced on its first analyst day that the company is shifting into making bended screens for 2015 and foldable screens for its devices for 2017.

Oh-Kyu Kwon, vice chairman and CEO, of the Korean company presented a 22-page Powerpoint and discussed their next steps to continue attracting investors and customers. Its main strategy to do that is through the "foldable screens."

The company admitted the uncertainties that may affect their plans such as the movement of the financial market, dispositions and acquisitions, unforeseen dramatic developments, and other issues. The company aims for a revenue goal of $400 billion by 2020.

As the Apple arch-rival outlined its plans through 2017, the report showed the company focus on building devices with high performance and low power consumption. It is looking for new materials for its memory, new structures for its application processor, image sensors with higher resolution technology, and bended displays for 2015 heading to foldable screens by 2017. However, there will be technology barriers along the way.

While the presentation showed that its TV screens will feature larger screens and 4K resolution, it didn't mention if it will be applied on the smartphones. However, a report from Inquirer said that Samsung "is promising that in two years time it will ship a smartphone with a 4K resolution display." Furthermore, buyers will start seeing 2K screens beginning next year. Meanwhile, 16 MP cameras and 64-bit processors are also in the works.

Kwon also admitted in the event that the company needs to improve its software."Even though we're doing the software business, we're not as good as we are in hardware," according to the Wall Street Journal.

Lastly, the presentation showed how Samsung exceeded its 2009 projection of the company's revenue growth for 2013. The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 have contributed a lot on this year's third quarter earnings.
