Two men and a woman from California were arrested in connection with a plot to steal money from the owner of a medical marijuana dispensary.
34-year-old Ryan Kevorkian, 33-year-old Naomi Kevorkian and Hossein Nayeri, 34, were arrested for allegedly cutting off the penis of a man who reportedly had bags of money buried somewhere near the pot store he owned.
Nayeri was arrested on Thursday by FBI agents in Prague and will attend hearings for potential extradition, the Los Angeles Times reported. The other two suspects were taken into police custody in Fresno, Calif.
According to the Orange County Register, Nayeri left the country for Iran following the alleged crime.
A fourth suspect named Kyle Handley, 34, was arrested last year.
During the initial trial, Handley pleaded not guilty. The four all could be thrown in prison without a parole option if they're convicted.
Handley worked as a grower who supplied pot to the clinic that the victim owned, authorities told the LA Times. He and a handful of other growers went on an "extravagant and expensive trip," to Las Vegas with the victim, whose identity has not yet been publicized.
Upon his return, Handley reportedly informed the trio of suspects that the victim was "extremely wealthy." They began planning a robbery, according to a statement from the Newport Beach Police Department and the Orange County district attorney's office obtained by the LA Times.
The group allegedly monitored the victim's movements, staying by his house for weeks while watching him drive to the desert, where he met with possible investors for a deal. The defendants were under the impression that he was putting money underground.
The four went to his house on Oct. 2, 2012, authorities reported, and tried to rob him. When he didn't give up any information, they beat him, then put zip tie handcuffs around his and a female roommates' wrists and kidnapped them in a van.
They went to the desert, where they thought the money was buried. They reportedly burned the victim using a blowtorch and cut his penis off, then poured bleach all over his body to get rid of any DNA evidence they might have left. They took his penis with them so it could not be reattached, the LA Times reported, and left both of the victims on the side of the road.
The woman then ran at least a mile in the dead of night, and got the attention of a police car when it passed by her. She did not sustain any injuries from the event. The male victim was apparently in the hospital for "an extensive period of time...recovering from his injuries," according to authorities.
