Game Developers Generated $2.8 Billion in 2012 through Facebook Platform

To lure more game developers to its site social networking giants Facebook revealed that its game developers generated $2.8 million in 2012.

Facebook has made in clear for the beginning of this year that it will be focusing on ramping up their website with more mid- and hard-core games, with intent of enticing users to spend more time and money on the site. In an attempt to lure more game developers to its site the social networking giant has been very forthcoming about revealing some important stats about earnings last year. In a statement addressed mostly to game developers, Tuesday, Facebook revealed that game developers who worked on Facebook's platform made a staggering $2.8 million last year.

Facebook executives revealed that they are aiming at making the site a place for dedicated gamers.

"Anywhere in the games business we are investing heavily," Facebook's Sean Ryan said at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Calif.

Since March 2012 Facebook has witnessed a 25 percent rise in the number of players who have paid to play games on the social networking site, Facebook officials revealed. The company also revealed that 20 percent of its daily users come on the site to play games and over 200 games on Facebook now have more than 1 million active players.

According to the report, 55 percent of the top 400 iOS apps are now integrated with Facebook and the social networking site was also responsible for redirecting 263 million clicks to Apple's App Store and Google Play from its mobile News Feed last month.

The company also announced its plans to introduce the "games collection" on profile pages of users. According to the announcement, a section under the "About" tab of a Facebook user will display the games that user likes and plays.
