14-Year-Old Girl Blogger Shot By Taliban In Critical Condition

Doctors confirmed that they successfully removed a bullet from Malala Yousafza's brain who was shot by Taliban gunmen in Pakistan's Swat Valley. Yousafza, an outspoken campaigner of education for girls, was shot in the head and neck on her way back from school.

She remains in critical condition even after the successful operation. Reports also claim that a makeshift air-ambulance from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is ready to take her to Dubai for further treatment. The medical board has not decided when she will be flown abroad.

The New York Times reported that Ehsanullah Ehsan, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack and confirmed that the young girl had been the target and termed her crusade for education rights an "obscenity."

He warned that if she survives, they will definitely try to kill her again because she is a symbol of Western culture in the area and that she has been propagating it openly.

Pakistan's first National Peace Award winner, Malala began blogging at 11-years-old and gained international notoriety as the author of a blog for the BBC's Urdu-language Website, Diary of a Pakistani Schoolgirl. She has been a frequent presence on Pakistani television through discussions and interviews.
