Facebook announced the introduction of a new comment feature to enhance conversations on Page replies, according to The Verge.
The announcement was made Monday, but the company has been working on the latest feature since November, which will be activated for all page owners and public figures with 10,000 followers or above starting July 10. Page owners can also activate the new feature manually by turning on "replies" through the Manage Permissions under Page admin panel.
"You and your readers will have the ability to reply directly to comments left on your Page content and start conversation threads, which will make it easier for you to interact directly with individual readers and keep relevant conversations connected," Vadim Lavrusik, Journalism Program Manager, wrote in a note announcing the launch of the new comment feature.
The threaded comment feature is designed in a way to organize comments with active conversations or most liked comments placed on the top. This feature will place spam reported comments or negative comments right at the bottom of the list. Similarly, comments made by friends or positive comments will be visible at the top. This way Page visitors can read the most relevant and sorted conversations.
The "Reply" option will be available just beside the "Like" option on the Page content. Users can directly reply to the comment and start a branched off conversation. The new feature can be beneficial for Page owners to initiate Q&A sessions or gather ideas or views on a topic.
This will lead to more time spent on the Pages, which can be profitable for both Facebook and Page owners. The limitations of the feature would not allow replying to a reply which means only two branched comments will be allowed.
The threaded comment feature is only for the desktop version of Facebook at the moment but the company plans to include the feature in the Facebook Graph API and mobile apps soon.
