You're embarking on a trip this holiday and you're raring to bid the cool winter goodbye to enjoy a couple of weeks somewhere warmer. Before you head to the airport, you might want to reconsider what you're planning to wear while traveling. Of the many things you should keep in mind, safety and comfort are of primary importance, but some clothes or accessories are better avoided when you have to get on a plane.

Below are the worst things you could wear at the airport when you travel:

1) Sweatpants. Wearing sweatpants on the airplane might look comfortable but it also translates to sloppy dressing. The propensity for wearing sweats at the airport is a lot more common than one can imagine and some even take it down a notch by wearing pajamas, according to New York Post. Sleepwear is also a no-no.

2) Sexy, immodest clothes. Dress modestly not only for your own comfort, but also for the comfort of those who are flying with you. Children might stare, leaving their poor parents to explain why you're buttocks are peeking out of your very skimpy shorts. If you're traveling abroad in a conservative area such as the Middle East, this is a definite violation of the culture's dress codes, according to Independent Traveler.

3) Uncomfortable shoes. Skip the stilettos if you're traveling, because you're going to be walking a lot or running between gates. This isn't the best time to debut those gorgeous slip-ons you just bought, so stick with old flats, loafers or kicks. It's also best to wear socks to keep your toes covered during security checks and keep germs off, according Oprah magazine.

4) Maxi dresses and skirts for women, cargo shorts for men. These clothes must be avoided per a TSA agent's recommendation, according to Who What Wear. You'll only be subjected to more security checks or delayed because security guys will have to check each of your cargo pants' pockets. "Wearing a maxi skirt or dress isn't your best bet because the officer will have to check you are not hiding anything under your skirt," said TSA agent Kimberly Pruitt in the report.

5) Strong perfume. You'll run the risk of giving some of your airplane seatmates a headache because of cabin pressure and limited air circulation. Don't experiment with scents if you're going on a flight.

6) Lots of jewelry. You'll encounter delays at the metal detector line since you'll be asked to remove everything metal. It's better to pack your valuables or leave them at home. Besides, you don't want to risk losing them while you're on a holiday.
