Davird O. Ruseell, the director for the upcoming film "Joy" and other films like "American Hustle" and "Silver Linings Playbook," loves to work with the same group of talented actors and actresses over and over again.

"Joy" is Russell's third movie in a row that stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. It is also his third film with Robert De Niro, a move he said is a throwback to how directors and actors worked in old Hollywood. "Joy" is also Russel's

When I look back at some of my favorite collaborations, I look back at William Wyler with Bette Davis, or [George] Cukor with [Katharine Hepburn]. This is something that is magical and special," Russell said during a La Grenouille lunch for the new film on Tuesday, according to Page Six.

The director previously pointed out the characters for Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Bradley Cooper were inspired by the group's "growth together in the last five years," Variety reported.

The feeling is mutual for Lawrence. The Academy Award-winning actress previously addressed her desire to work with the director as long as they are both making movies.

"David and I will never, ever, ever, ever not do movies together," she said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I love him so much that sometimes I can't talk about him without tearing up. Look! I'm tearing up. I understand every look, every eyeball move, every word he says or doesn't say. We were made for each other."

"Joy" opens in theatres on Dec. 25.
