Phoenix Murder-Suicide Leaves Five People And Two Dogs Dead In Apartment Shooting

A Phoenix man killed four people and two dogs at an apartment complex before taking his own life on Saturday, The Associated Press reported.

Michael Guzzo, 56, apparently killed four members of a family that lived next to him, in addition to two pets, before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities arrived at the scene around 9:00 a.m. after neighbors called 911 for hearing gunshots.

"I was sleeping. I heard a gunshot, I quickly jumped and looked out my window and I saw he was looking at the gun then put it back over the wall and shot again," said Stanislav Mitev.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson said police are still investigating and are unsure of a motive. He also said in a statement that the shotgun, which is the weapon believed to be used during the shooting, was found next to Guzzo in his apartment.

The victims were identified as Bruce Moore, 66; Michael Moore, 42; Renee Moore, 36; and Shawn Moore, 17.

"When they got to the back patio area, they found two people who had been deceased from gunshot wounds. They went ahead and made an emergency entrance into the apartment and discovered two other victims inside," said Thompson.

After Guzzo killed the Moores, he allegedly walked across the street in the complex and shot at the door and window of a second townhouse before returning to his home and committing suicide.

"We woke up, somebody just banged on our door and they shot four rounds. I guess it was a shotgun, there's big old holes on my door," Libni DeLeon told KSAZ TV.

Another resident in the complex said he was shocked to learn that Guzzo would be responsible for such a tragedy.

"I've seen him every morning - come in quiet every morning," Donald McKenzie told KSAZ. "Never would expect him to be the guy who did this at all."
