Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is looking for redemption in this year's upcoming congressional election, according to CNN.com.
Sanford is famous for telling the country he took a hiking trip in the Appalachians, when he was actually in Argentina with his mistress. In a peculiar opportunity for a seat in South Carolina's 1st Congressional district, Sanford is ready for this second chance.
"At some level or another we all hope for redemption," he said in an interview with CNN.
Typically Sanford's personal life would dominate headlines during an election, but in a race that features Ted Turner's son and Stephen Colbert's sister, there's no shortage of news.
The opportunity for the congressional seat arose when Republican Rep. Tim Scott left to take a seat in the Senate. He replaced Jim DeMint, who left the Senate in December.
Teddy Turner, son of CNN founder Ted Turner, is joining the race. But he's not seen as a favorable candidate in the eyes of many.
"His family ties, deep pockets and sudden rise in some internal polling have made him a big target," said CNN.
Turner has received numerous attacks, tying him to Jane Fonda, his father's ex-wife.
"You know it's absolutely amazing how dirty the game is, how expensive the game is. It just doesn't make sense," Turner said according to CNN.
In addition to attacks and marital affairs, voters who love drama will also like the candidacy of Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, sister of famous TV comedic personality Steven Colbert.
Colbert-Busch told CNN, that she finds no comedy in her fun for Congress.
"This is not a joke. I don't think anybody would think that this was a joke," she said. "This is all too important. All too important with the condition that the country is in," she said.
The special congressional election will be held in May.
