HTC introduced the One Max on Monday as an updated and larger version of its flagship smartphone, the HTC One. The device is an Android-powered phablet with a range of features including a 5.9-inch display screen.
The display measures 5.9 across the diagonal axis and includes 1920 x 1080 pixels. According to InformationWeek, it is a hair smaller than the 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy mega but it offers significantly better resolution. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 processor, which is paired with 2GB of RAM. The 600 CPU, although worse than the Snapdragon 800, has four cores at 1.7GHz each. The device comes in two storage options, 16GB and 32GB and comes with support for a micro SD memory card.
In order to compete with Apple's latest ultra-secure smartphone, the iPhone 5S, the HTC One Max comes with a biometric fingerprint sensor. However, unlike the iPhone 5S, the fingerprint sensor on HTC's new device comes located on the back of the phone. The sensor reportedly requires the user to swipe his or her finger from the top to the bottom in order to read the print and unlock the device and launch certain applications.
The device runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Sense 5.5, the latest version of Sense, which includes HTC's BlinkFeed software as well as the company's own user interface for Android devices. The Max has the same Ultrapixel camera and ImageChip found in the One and One Mini. The front-facing camera has 2.1 megapixels and both cameras can capture HD Video.
The device is expected to reach some overseas markets later this moth. Meanwhile, none of the major U.S. network carriers have announced plans for the launch of the HTC One Max. Pricing has not been revealed either at this point.
