We know that you essentially already knew, but Chris Pine ("Star Trek") has made it official: he will be appearing as Steve Trevor, our hero's love interest, in "Wonder Woman."

Pine had long been rumored to be up for both the role of Trevor and Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in Warner Bros.' expanding DC Extended Universe. The studio has plans to reboot "Green Lantern" in 2020 following his inclusion in the two-part "Justice League" series in 2017 and 2019, respectively. But Pine wound up going with "Wonder Woman" and appears very content with his choice.

"I do not really know what I'm allowed to tell you," Pine recently told French entertainment magazine Premiere. "I'm super excited, of course, Gal Gadot is super talented, Patty Jenkins will perform, and we will shoot in film."

Gadot ("Furious 7") will be introduced as the Amazonian/Themysciraian/Greek mythology warrior in next year's much-hyped "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" before her solo flick hits theaters in 2017. Jenkins ("Monster") replaced Michalle MacLaren as director and is now at the helm of the first ever female-led superhero blockbuster film in the current DCEU/MCU era. The fact that "Wonder Woman" is breaking new ground is what convinced Pine to get on board with the film.

"What excites me most is to work in a movie with a superhero woman," Pine said. "With a woman in the lead role. I am teamed with this intelligent, beautiful and strong woman to defeat the villains and save humanity."

Though details about the film's plot are scarce at the moment, unconfirmed reports of story points have surfaced in recent weeks. "Wonder Woman" will reportedly cover two separate time periods: World War II and the present day. The primary villains may be fellow Greek gods Ares and Circes who are trying to orchestrate World War III. It's also been rumored that Ben Affleck's Batman could be making an appearance in the movie as well.

Pine is currently filming "Star Trek Beyond" but will likely get started on "Wonder Woman" once production wraps.
