Lyft partnered with Universal and Verizon to give free rides in the DeLorean, the time-travelling auto featured in the iconic "Back to the Future," on the date it travelled into the future, Oct. 21, 2015, reported The New York Daily News.

In the blockbuster sequel "Back to the Future II," Marty McFly leaves 1989, the year Taylor Swift was born, to travel to 2015.

Lyft provided an undisclosed number of DeLorean DMC 12s shipped from all over the country to celebrate "Back to the Future" Day, San Francisco Gate reported.

Users with the Lyft app could choose "McFly Mode" to request a free 15 minute ride in a DeLorean between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., noted CNET Magazine.

Unfortunately, these DeLoreans do not have the time travelling Flux Capacitors and riders will not reach 88 miles per hour. They will only drive you 15 minutes into the future to when your free ride ends.
