A total of sixteen people have died due to flooding as Typhoon Koppu, known locally as Typhoon Lando, continues to wreak havoc in the Luzon Island of the Philippines, Agence France-Presse reported.

Residents of farming villages that have been flooded due to the storm are now stuck on their rooftops, and the animals floated in the quick-rising rivers as of Monday afternoon local time.

Koppu is the second biggest storm to hit the Southeast Asian country this year and has forced more than 60,000 people to evacuate from their respective houses.

The typhoon first made landfall early Sunday morning in the coastal town of Casiguran with maximum-sustained winds between 175 to 185 kilometers per hour.

Koppu is expected to bring in more heavy rains and strong winds, as well as flooding and potential landslides in some affected areas. The storm is set to remain in the country for the next two to three days, as HNGN previously reported.
