The Florida Gators will attempt to extend their unbeaten season without redshirt quarterback Will Grier as the NCAA has suspended Grier indefinitely, as first reported by Mike Huguenin of Grid Iron Now.

Gators head coach Jim McElwain confirmed the suspension, per NFL.com, and said that the university plans to appeal the NCAA's decision. Grier will continue to practice with the team during his suspension.

UPDATE, 5:20 p.m.: Grier has been suspended for one year and has also lost a year of NCAA eligibility, meaning the soonest he could return to the field for the Gators is the seventh game of the 2016 season, according to ESPN.

Various reports have suggested that Grier was suspended by the NCAA after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. Brett McMurphy of ESPN was the first to report Grier's positive test.

For his part, Grier addressed the media after the suspension was officially announced and claimed that he tested positive after taking an over-the-counter supplement that had "something" in it. He also said that he failed to check with the team's medical staff before taking the supplement.

"I'm really sorry to everyone," Grier said, via NFL.com. "I'm just really sorry."

This is difficult news for Gator Nation as Grier has been a large part of the team's 6-0 run to start the season. Helming an offense that was nearly unwatchable last season, Grier has completed 106 passes for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns. With a difficult match up against LSU looming this weekend and Grier now on the shelf for the foreseeable future, the outcome of Florida's 2015 season suddenly looks much cloudier than it did only a few short hours ago.
