The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: Silas Could Make it Past This Season; Will He Face the Same Fate as Klaus?

When we resume “The Vampire Diaries” our favorite characters from Mystic Falls will be facing the big bad Silas (Paul Wesley)—probably the biggest and baddest villain in the history of the series. As of right now, fans have no idea what Silas is going to do in Season 5. However, Silas’ plans for the town aren’t the only thing about the character that’s up in air.

According to TVGuide.com, Joseph Morgan’s character Klaus was originally going to be killed off in Season 3. However, the fans were clamoring for him so he was kept on. Co-creator Julie Plec told the website that there may be a similar situation with Silas.

"Klaus is a perfect example because thank God the happy ending to that story is a spin-off," Plec says. "We didn't want to kill him because we liked him so much, but he was on the precipice of becoming a story vacuum if we weren't careful. Silas is the same thing.

“He is a villain and at some point the bad guy needs to be dealt with and vanquished, no matter how good they are. So we'll see. We definitely have plans to vanquish him, but we have an open mind to keep him around, it depends on the success of the storyline and the actor in both roles and, frankly, if there's more story to tell."

It’s a safe bet that every major villain who comes on “The Vampire Diaries” isn’t going to get their own spinoff. Not to mention the fact that it would be near impossible for Wesley to do both shows. Also, according to Wesley, the fans are really into his first character Stefan.

"I think what the fans like and what the fans react to is making Stefan dynamic," he predicted. "He's the hero and everyone wants to see the hero's journey and his fall and his great redemption and I think that's what it's all about. So if they can make Stefan dynamic continually then I don't know if Silas is necessary for the entire length of the show."

Currently Stefan is locked up at the bottom of the lake and drowning repeatedly. Eventually everyone’s going to figure out Silas’ true identity and eventually Stefan is going to get out. How and when these things are going to happen are big questions for this season. Let’s hope we get some answers in tonight’s premiere.

Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” begins tonight at 8/7c on The CW.
