Remember in school when you learned about dramatic irony. For those of you who don’t recall, it’s when you as the viewer/reader/listener know something that the character(s) in the story don’t. Well, we get a bit of dramatic irony in the video below as Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are about to (or have just finished) taking a bath. After Damon sees a worried look on Elena's face and asks if everything is OK, she says:
I’ve just got this weird feeling like something bad’s about to happen.
Yes, Elena. I’d say your right. Let’s list the bad things that are going to/have already happened:
--Silas (Paul Wesley) is posing as your ex-boyfriend Stefan (also played by Wesley) and is preparing to do something extremely evil
--Your brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is busy being the mouth piece for your dead best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham)
--Your ex-boyfriend Stefan is at the bottom of a lake drowning over and over again
--Your arch nemesis Katherine (also played by Dobrev) is about to move into the same house as your boyfriend
--You and Caroline (Candice Accola) are about to run into a creepy and mysterious teacher while away at Whitmore.
Yes, Elena, something—or should I say somethings—bad is about to happen.
However, it’s nice that Elena and Damon were able to share this moment before things got worse. Their relationship may be another area that’s affected by “something bad.”
Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries” premieres Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8/7c on The CW.
