New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson's four-game suspension is due to end Monday, unless he is disciplined by the league for a July arrest, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles hasn't received any updates from the league pertaining to Richardson and his punishment. Bowles is operating as though Richardson will be able to return to the team after they get back from a game in London against the Miami Dolphins.

"As of right now, yes," said Bowles about expecting Richardson's return next week. He was originally suspended without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, according to NFL reporter Dan Hanzus. Two weeks after his suspension was announced, Richardson was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest, according to Cimini. Richardson was allegedly driving 143 miles per hour with a child in the car, and the car reportedly smelled like marijuana although none was found.

The Jets are 2-1, suffering their first lost this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles. New York's defense was dominant the first three weeks, and ranked fourth in the league in terms of yards allowed per game. Adding Richardson to this defense could take this pass rush to another level. Last season, Richardson had eight sacks and 66 combined tackles.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan may have to make an important decision regarding Richardson's future with the organization. Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson is entering the final year of his contract and has stated he doesn't want to negotiate during the season. While Wilkerson will look for a new deal after this season, Richardson's rookie contract will expire after the 2016 season. The Jets won't likely be able to keep both as they are both dominant defensive lineman who are likely to get paid well.

The Jets will likely need to take advantage of having both these players on defense this season, but first Richardson will need to wait one more game before returning. As long as no other penalty comes down on him, the Jets will look to solidify one of the best defenses in the NFL.
