Google To Open Retail Stores Later This Year?

According to recent reports online, Google is planning to open its own retails stores later this year.

First Apple opened retail stores worldwide. Then later Microsoft followed suit and opened its own retail stores. Now, Google has plans of joining the two giant tech brands. According to a report by 9to5Google, an unnamed source tells them that Google executives are planning on opening up Google retail stores this year, well in time for this year's holiday shopping.

The main reason behind this, the website reports, is to attract consumers that are tech savvy as well as not so tech savvy. The stores will give them an opportunity to try out Google's devices and applications first before purchasing them. Following Apple's footsteps, Google believes it needs to let people try out Google Glass in person, the report says.

The store would also sell Chrome computers and Google Nexus smartphones and tablets. At the moment, Google sells its Chromebooks in select Best Buy outlets with its own employees giving customers information on how it works and operates. If Google were to bring its own stores, things could get much simpler and like any other retail outlet, users can check how these products work and pick the best one.

Google Glass is touted to be the prime reason behind opening up retail stores, but keeping Nexus devices alongside seems like an obvious call. Because opening a retail shop only for something as expensive as a Google Glass wouldn't really make sense.
