A school bus was caught in a traffic accident causing it to plunge from Loop 610 in southeast Houston Tuesday morning, leaving two students dead and two others, along with their bus driver, injured.

The wreck occurred around 7 a.m. on the eastbound road of the South Loop near Telephone Road, the Houston Police Department reported. Reports indicate that as the bus was making its way to Houston's Furr High School, a car entered the lane of a nearby Buick Le Sabre. The LeSabre then veered to the right, striking the bus in the front, according to CBS Iowa affiliate KCCI.

Receiving the impact, the bus wound up over-correcting and ended up going through a guardrail, falling off the bridge and onto the road below, according to NewsChannel 4.

Witnesses say five people were onboard the bus at the time - two girls, two boys and the driver.

One girl reportedly died at the scene while the other four were taken to various hospitals in the area. Two of them went to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, a third was transported to Texas Children's Hospital, and the driver was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The second female student died while at the hospital, though it's unclear which one of the hospitals she went to.

The names of those involved have yet to be released.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy,"  Houston Independent School District Superintendent Terry Grier said. "I ask all of the HISD community to join me in praying for all of those involved."
