A stranded Carnival cruise ship will return to its home port as soon as possible, but the rest of the cruise's stops have been cancelled, according to USA Today.

The ship got stuck in St. Thomas on Monday after an engine fire. It will dock at its home port in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The stops in Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Maarten and St. Lucia have been cancelled. Carnival cruise lines will give passengers full refunds for the shortened cruise, a 50 percent discount for their next cruise and $150 shipboard credit.

"The ship's command is presently awaiting permission from authorities to sail," Carnival said in a statement, USA Today reported.

The ship, Liberty, was docked in St. Thomas when the fire started Monday. Passengers were evacuated, and could not get back on board until Monday evening. No one was injured in the fire, according to The Daily Mail. The ship was on its second day of a seven-day cruise. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

There are around 4,500 passengers and crew aboard the ship, according to The Virgin Islands Daily News. How they will spend the rest of their vacation after docking is unknown.
