The Queen Mary 2 has ended its search for a crewmember reported missing Saturday morning, according to the Associated Press.

The crewmember aboard the Cunard cruise ship went overboard somewhere off the coast of Newfoundland prompting an extensive search, according to the AP.

A statement given by the company says that the missing crewmember is presumed dead, NBC News reported. No sightings were reported, even after an extensive search, foggy conditions making the search even more difficult.

The search lasted five hours, according to the Sunday Express.

"The ship was off the coast of Newfoundland and, in association with local authorities, it carried out an extensive search of the area in which he went overboard but unfortunately there were no sightings," a Cunard cruise line spokeswoman said in a statement released Sunday morning. "Having discussed this with experts ashore, there is no possibility that the crewmember could have survived this long in the water and we therefore have to presume that he died in the water."

The name of this missing crewmember has not yet been released, AP reported

The Cunard cruise ship was heading from Southampton to New York. After the search was ended, the ship continued on to its next stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
