Many weddings occur at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, where you can even have an Elvis impersonator in a black jumpsuit croon as you and your significant other walk down the aisle. Pastor Jean-Claude Chevalme makes an appearence by pronouncing you man and wife. All in 10 minutes flat. "Viva Las Vegas!"

Sin City has been known for decades for all-night gambling, extravagant shows, and no-holds-barred boozing, but it has also been a magnet for couples from around the world who are looking to tie the knot quickly and cheaply.

However, the wedding business isn't what it used to be. The marriage license office in Nevada's Clark County is every day, even on holidays, open until midnight. Weddings are pretty inexpensive, usually just a few hundred dollars. Over the past decade, 37 percent fewer people are taking advantage of the desert oasis city's flexible laws. Weddings have dropped from 128,000 to 81,000 in the last year alone.

The downturn could also be due to a decline in the appeal of a style of wedding that emerged more than a half-century ago. It is suggested that it is also because people are making less money and the decline of the economy in Las Vegas are reasons why weddings have been on the downfall.

"Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward got hitched here -- two big Hollywood stars of the 1950s," said Clark County clerk Lynn Marie Goya. Apparently, they weren't the only ones. Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra said their vows in Sin City in 1966. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton, and Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford all have been married in Las Vegas.

It is said that the Las Vegas marriage has come to less glamorous and more of an impulse, and that the marriages are usually ill-fated. There have been a fare share of movie stars like Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman who got married there before annulling their vows nine days later. Also, Britney Spears and Jason Alexander tied the knot -- and then annulled it 55 hours later.

The city it making some changes to how people perceive the wedding there and has kicked off a publicity campaign to restore the allure of the Vegas wedding. Also it hopes to attract a new generation of lovebirds to the city, especially from overseas.
