Baltimore mourns today as the city has lost a hero: Batman has died. Lenny Robinson became a viral sensation and a local hero for dressing as the Caped Crusader and visiting sick children in the hospital. He passed away Sunday night after his Batmobile broke down on the Interstate, according to the Washington Post.

Robinson was driving his black Lamborghini home from a car show in West Virginia when it stalled out on Interstate 70 Sunday night in the eastbound fast lane. As he was checking the engine, a Toyota Camry hit him. The driver of that vehicle was not hurt, but Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed and the investigation is still under way, reported the Washington Post.

The 51-year-old became famous for playing Batman after he was pulled over in full costume by a police officer in 2012. The video turned into an Internet sensation. He collected Batman toys and memorabilia, which he then handed out to the sick children he visited all over Maryland. He was a father of three, and the president of Superheroes for Kids, Inc. He also made appearances at schools as Batman to talk about bullying, according to the Wrap.

He has been a volunteer at hospitals since 2007, after selling the industrial cleaning business he founded while still in high school.

"These are the real superheroes. It's not me; it's not you. They're fighting for their lives every single day," Robinson said about the sick children he visited, according to CNN.
