The MMA fighter widely viewed as the only woman who can legitimately threaten Ronda Rousey's bantamweight championship, Cris "Cyborg" Justino, may finally be getting her shot at unseating the undefeated MMA star. Tito Ortiz, appearing on AXS TV Fights on Friday to promote Bellator: Dynamite, said that Rousey's future fight, rumored to be at Texas stadium and headlined by Connor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo, has been offered to Justino.
"I've heard from Cris [Justino] actually that the fight that's supposed to be happening at the Cowboy's arena... they offered the fight to Cris. I know her management said yes and I've told her, 'Let's do it,'" Ortiz says in the video, which you can see below.
Rousey defeated Bethe Correia in just 34 seconds in her most recent bout. She is now 12-0 as a UFC fighter. Cyborg, despite a positive test for steroids in 2013, has put together a professional record of 13-1 after losing in her pro debut. Ortiz, who is Cyborg's ex-manager, says that it's now up to Rousey whether or not the two finally give MMA fans what they want and square off sometime in the near future.
"So I guess the ball's all in Ronda [Rousey]'s corner and Ronda wants to do it. Dana said if Cris came down to 135 they'll make the fight happen, so let's see if Ronda accepts the fight."
As Ortiz notes, Cyborg is a featherweight so she'll have to prove she can get down to 135 in order for the fight to actually take place.
While Rowdy's next fight is likely to be against Meisha Tate, if she emerges victorious, it sounds like Cyborg may be next on the docket.
