New York Jets News: Rex Ryan's Attendance at Son's College Game Sparks Controversy; Team Signs Brady Quinn

It seems wherever the New York Jets are, drama follows them. The latest issue comes way of head coach Rex Ryan’s decision to attend his son’s first college football game at Clemson University, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Seth Ryan, Rex’s son, is a walk-on Clemson Tiger and Rex went to the university to witness the game. As it happens Saturday is also the day final cuts were made around the NFL to get rosters down to 53 players. Due to Rex’s decision to travel to South Carolina on Saturday there was speculation that he had no say in the personnel decisions—especially when a photo of him standing in an airport wearing Clemson apparel appeared on Twitter.

Despite the controversy, Ryan said he wanted to witness Seth play in his first college football game, saying he “played dad for a day.”

"I think 'played' is not very accurate," he said jokingly. "I saw him stand there. But it was a great deal.”

The Jets head coach explained the decisions on which players to cut were made prior to his departure Saturday and that he had spoke to “several” Jets players that weren’t going to make the team.

When it comes to personnel decisions fans are worried more about the Jets’ starting quarterback than which players didn’t make the team.

It is widely believed that rookie Geno Smith will take have the starting responsibilities seeing as Mark Sanchez is still out with a shoulder injury.Nevertheless, the Jets continue to be adamant about waiting to name a starting quarterback.

The Jets signed Monday veteran quarterback Brady Quinn, according to ESPNNewYork.com, which seems to only add to the quarterback questions.

"I don't know, just keeping a veteran guy around as an emergency guy," Sanchez said concerning the signing according to ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini.

There may some truth to Sanchez’s statement. If Smith were to get injured in the Jets’ first game of the regular season Quinn would probably be the next man up. Although rookie Matt Simms performed commendably during the preseason, a majority of his play was against second- and third-team defenses. The Jets may feel he isn’t ready to take on the role.

The Jets first regular season game is against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.
