A head-on car crash on Saturday killed two children and four adults in a national forest in northwestern Pennsylvania, Philly.com reported.
Kathy Douglas, 36, was driving Olivia Douglas, 12, Jarrett Costanzo, 6, and her 10-year-old son in her sport utility vehicle in Allegheny National Forest when she crashed with a sedan, resulting in the death of Costanzo and Olivia Douglas and seriously injuring Kathy Douglas and her son.
All four passengers in the sedan -- Gary Beimel, 62, Elaine Beimel, 55, David Cuneo, 54, and Florence Donachy, 81 -- were also killed.
Kathy Douglas, of Kane, was still in serious condition at the hospital on Monday. A hospital spokesperson declined to comment on her son's condition.
Police said that at least one of the cars caught fire following the crash and only the drivers, Douglas and Beimel, were known to be wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
The Beimels, who lived in St. Marys, Penn., will be "very greatly missed" according to their neighbor, Stephanie Renwick.
"They were wonderful people," Renwick said on Monday. "They were good friends and wonderful neighbors."
Renwick also reflected on their young family who got along well with her children.
"They have two young children who recently married," she said. "I have three young children, and they were always wonderful to them."
A candlelight vigil was held on Sunday for the victims at the Kane Area Middle School football field. There were over 300 people in attendance, many who wore football jerseys and cheerleading outfits to show support for Olivia Douglas, described as a "vibrant" cheerleader, and Costanzo, who played football and loved sports altogether.
Olivia Douglas was remembered at the memorial service as a hard worker with an infectious giggle and many friends. Costanzo, who attended Kane Area Elementary School, was described as a sports enthusiast.
The investigation of the crash is still ongoing.
