Serena Williams meets Yaroslava Shvedova on Friday in the third round of the 2013 US Open. The match is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE or HERE.
World No. 1 Williams carried her impressive season into the US Open. She breezed through Francesca Schiavone in the opening round (6-0, 6-1), and then handed Galina Voskoboeva a loss (6-3, 6-0) to advance to the third round.
Williams is on the quest for her fifth US Open singles title, and her ninth WTA title of the year. Williams has only lost four times this season, and she's the clear favorite to win the tournament. Despite the very real prospect of another Slam title, Williams insists any more titles in her career are a bonus.
"That's the beauty of my career. I don't need to do anything at all," the 31-year-old American said earlier this week, via Yahoo! Sports. "Everything I do from this day forward is bonus. Everything for me is just extra."
William's next challenge is Shedova.
Shvedova, ranked No. 78 in the World, is 10-10 on the season. Her career-best in a Grand Slam was in 2012 when she made it to the quarterfinals of the French Open. She defeated Olga Puchkova in the opening round (6-1, 6-0), and then Patricia Mayr-Achleitner (6-2, 6-3).
Williams and Shvedova have previously met twice, with Williams winning both matches. They last met in 2012 at Wimbledon - Williams won in three sets.
