The world's fastest roller coaster is coming to Chicago. Six Flags Great America announced that it's building a new wooden roller coaster, named Goliath that will send riders barreling towards the sky at speeds up to 72 mph.
The theme park, which is located north of Chicago, says it will break three world records, Fox News reports. Goliath will have the tallest drop on a wooden roller coaster at 180 feet, the steepest drop at 85 degrees and the fastest speeds. It will also have "three over-banked turns, a 180-degree zero-gravity roll, and inverted drop and an inverted zero-gravity stall," the Huffington Posts reports.
"Six Flags Great America is known for introducing record-breaking and first-of-its-kind roller coasters," Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America told Fox. "Goliath will be unmatched - setting not only one, but three world records and featuring two inversions. All of the ride elements, including an 85-degree plunge down the tallest drop on a wooden roller coaster, make Goliath the most extreme roller coaster in the world."
Construction on the roller coaster is scheduled to begin in the fall and is expected to open by the spring of 2014 in the County Fair section of the theme park.
"Holding three world records, Goliath is the most extreme coaster of its kind and provides adrenaline rush like no other," the website says. "Riders will elevate up to touch the sky atop the 165-foot lift hill. Then, you'll whip over the peak and conquer the world's tallest and steepest hart-racing drop, at an unbelievable 180 feet and a near-vertical 85 degrees. You'll reach the bottom of this gut-wrenching slope before you even have time to scream."
