A cab driver followed then brutally attacked his ex-girlfriend on Wednesday, stabbing her to death after he slammed her car off the side of a Bronx, NY highway.
According to the New York Daily News, 20-year-old Catherine German was trapped in her SUV when her ex stabbed her multiple times, while a male acquaintance stood in the distance.
German and ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Doines Espinal, were locked in a high-speed chase before the killer ex swerved his cab right into her SUV, launching it off the side of the highway.
Espinal was violent toward German in the past-he was arrested for assaulting the woman, which later led her to file an order of protection against him, the Daily News reported.
Espinal and German are the parents of one two-month-old baby.
The horrific event began when Espinal saw German walking out of the Paradise Hotel in the Bronx with the driver of the SUV, another male named Jose Jiminez, 28, of Yonkers, N.Y., at about four in the morning.
After the two got into their Honda Pilot SUV and left the hotel, Espinal followed them in his lime green cab.
As Espinal increased his speed, trailing closely behind the car transporting Jiminez and German, he got close enough to ram his car into the other vehicle, sending it right over a concrete divider at the northbound entrance to the New England Thruway from the Pelham Parkway.
The car tumbled, eventually crashing on its side in a bike path located on the side of the highway.
Espinal remained at the site of the attack until police arrived. He was then arrested.
He denied hospitalization and medical help at the crime scene. He sustained no injuries from his car flipping over.
Co-workers at Kiss Car Service said that Espinal had worked for the taxi service for many years.
They also reported that Espinal had previously told them German was the reason his license was suspended recently.
"She got me arrested," he told fellow drivers at Kiss Car Service.
Maria Martinez, secretary at the cab company, said that he had issues with the ex-girlfriend that led to legal problems.
"He had his...license suspended for a few days [in August] because he had a problem with his girlfriend," she stated.
"He's not the kind of person you'd expect to have a problem like this," Martinez continued. "It's very shocking to me."
