Four young men were rewarded for their honesty while shopping at a convenience store, which was actually closed at the time, News 12 New Jersey reports.

The William Paterson University football players stopped by the Buddy's Small Lots in New Jersey to buy a speaker cable and batteries, but there was no store employee available to ring out their purchases.  The young men left the money for their purchases on the counter and left.

Police informed store management about the suspected break-in.  Upon arrival, they found the door's lock had malfunction, but after sweeping the store to check for stolen items, management found nothing was missing, according to News 12.

The next step was to check the security camera to see what happened.

"Not only did they leave money on the counter, they counted out the change," store operations manager Marci Lederman told News 12.

The surveillance footage showed one of the young men waving the money at the camera.

Kell'e Gallimore was one of the four football players at the store.  Gallimore told News 12 the attention his act is receiving is surprising, since all he did was paid for something at a store.

"It was only...a cord for four dollars," he said. "I didn't think it was going to blow up to be this big."

Another football players, Thomas James wants others to follow their lead.

"All people are not thieves. You can't judge people by the way they look," James said.

The broken lock on the door has been fixed.

Buddy's manager Lederman was grateful for the young men's actions, and made a visit to the University to personally thank the players.   She dubbed the boys "role models," and gave them a $50 shopping spree, News 12 reports.
