The first trailer for the "Sherlock" Christmas special was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con earlier today. The hit BBC/PBS show is in the midst of one of its infamously long hiatuses but fans can expect a single episode over the holiday season later this year.

The Christmas special will return the iconic detective to his roots as it takes place in Victorian England (if you couldn't tell from the period appropriate attire and scenery). However, new fans shouldn't worry about getting lost in the old setting as it appears as if the dialogue will maintain its modernized wit.

Fans have been eager for more "Sherlock" ever since "His Final Vow" aired in the U.S. on PBS stations last February. Showrunner Steven Moffat promised earlier today at Comic-Con that the show will return in impressive fashion.

"When this special goes out, it will also [air] in selective cinemas around the world, to complement the broadcast," he revealed.

Normally, there has been a divide between the show's airing dates in the U.K. and the U.S. However, showing the special in theaters hints at a unified timeline for when fans may finally be able to catch another glimpse at "Sherlock."
