Marvel's "Daredevil" kept its cast of characters small in season one to introduce its hero, Matt Murdock, but the second season will start to introduce some of the series more iconic characters. Following the casting of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, the Netflix series has added Elodie Yung as Elektra, the love interest and sometimes enemy of Daredevil.

"After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra's impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity," Jeph Loeb, executive producer and Head of Marvel Television, told Marvel.com. "Paired with Charlie [Cox] as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for."

Yung is a French actress from French and Cambodian descent. Her most recent role in 2013's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" also had her playing a ninja assassin.

"Daredevil" made minor mention of Elektra late in the first season when Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) asked Murdock about a Greek girl he dated earlier in their college careers. In the comics, Elektra is the daughter of the Greek ambassador, Hugo Natchios, and the two were kidnapped while she was attending Columbia University with Murdock in New York City.

Elektra was previously portrayed on screen by Jennifer Garner. She first appeared in 2003's "Daredevil" opposite Ben Affleck and then reprised her role to take the lead in 2005's "Elektra."

Marvel's "Daredevil" will return for its second season in 2016.
